Rohit to host competition to find and launch community-minded commercial tenant for new central Edmonton neighbourhood
January 06, 2020
Edmonton, AB (January 6, 2020) — The Rohit Group of Companies has launched a game-changing competition called ‘The Cut’ for supporting unique commercial tenants for Edmonton’s newest core community — Stadium Yards, located next to Commonwealth Stadium and the Stadium LRT Station. Rohit is inviting creative businesses, restaurants and startup entrepreneurs with a passion to build a sense of community where they operate to participate in this life changing contest.
The Cut will see one local business awarded $125,000 in inducements designed to help elevate a good business idea into a great neighbourhood amenity. Applications are open today and entrepreneurs can enter at www.stadiumyards.com/thecut, with applications closing February 9, 2020.
Rohit Group of Companies President Rohit Gupta’s vision for Stadium Yards is for it to become a vibrant neighbourhood strengthened by community anchors like destination restaurants, businesses and residents working together to give it a sense of place. “For a community like Stadium Yards to be successful, residents need to love the businesses and amenities surrounding where they live,” says Gupta. “This couldn’t be possible without business owners who share our goals and want to be a part of this great community.”
The 7-acre urban village comprised of over 720 residential units will be complemented with nearby commercial space, with a specific aim to meet residents’ needs. Gupta goes on to explain that the vision for the Stadium Yards aims to reduce urban isolation with social areas like dog parks and recreation centres, unique retail amenities as well as access to transit creating shorter commutes.
The top five businesses short-listed will be invited to present their business plans to a panel of expert judges for the chance at being included in the new development. Judges include Rohit Group of Companies President Rohit Gupta, Downtown Business Association Executive Director Ian O’Donnell, co-founder of the Nation Network and President of Oodle Noodle Jay Downton and Vice President of Retail from Colliers International Casey McClelland.
The final event will be held on February 20, 2020 at Triffo Theatre at MacEwan University. The public is invited to attend, with free tickets available in advance through Eventbrite.
